Giving Tree

Dear Friends of the Giving Tree,

As we begin planning for the Giving Tree in 2020, we find many new challenges. Our past program ran seamlessly for many years; however, we find the need to make adjustments for the 2020 holiday season because of the virus. The pandemic creates many new obstacles, such as: Masses are mostly virtual and parishioners will not be able to get our gift tags; volunteers are limited; and, we do not want to put our younger volunteers (who help us assemble everything) or their families at risk.

Similarly, tags hanging on a Giving Tree, which people handle to review, present additional risks by becoming germ receptacles which cannot be sanitized. The tree itself also adds to the threat of transmission by providing a place for people to congregate without proper social distancing. We always enjoy all the wonderful gifts people purchase, but implementing this safely will be very difficult this year.

With these thoughts in mind, we have decided to go with an all gift card program this year. A gift card program better meets the new contactless guidelines and is a safer alternative to the Giving Tree. We are collecting gift cards in $20.00 to $50.00 values to local stores (Walmart, Target, Amazon, etc.) and will give the children gift cards for the holidays.

If you would like to donate gift cards, please drop them off on Tuesdays or Thursdays between 11 am and 1 pm, starting November 3rd in the Human Services office (kitchen under the church), or contact Kerry Barbour or Evelyn Jenkins to coordinate delivery or pick-up. We would like to collect the gift cards by December 5th and hope to give the gift cards to the families on December 7th. This early collection will allow time for the parents to shop for their children.

Thank you for your continued support of the important work we do. You make a great impact on our community and help us with our own mission to support local families in need. We wish you a safe and warm holiday season and look forward to working with you again this year.
